Holter and Pacemaker

A Holter procedure performed on a patient with a pacemaker, at best should illustrate: failure to capture, failure to sense, competition and fusion phenomena, and inappropriate rate response. The pacemaker problems can only be identified if the actual pacer spike and corresponding conduction is seen as it actually occurred. Additionally, the Holter report should provide valuable information as to how the pacemaker functioned during the normal 24 hour period for the patient.

Thousands of Americans can likely suffer from a potentially deadly arrhythmia if gone undetected. There are several types of abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias. Arrhythmias are typically caused by a malfunction in the heart's built-in electrical system that regulates its beating. Not all arrhythmias are life threatening. A Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist can detect these most abnormal rhythms with a Holter monitor.
